Map review of Acopz

Acopz is a very short amateurish attempt at making a map series. There are no major problems in the map design except maybe some destructible objects necessary for progression not being obvious enough.

Players spawn in a room filled with weapons and ammo, and with double health and HEV chargers on the wall. It felt great starting the map with 100 HEV and full ammo.

The map design is rudimentary and simple. The rooms were bland and uninteresting. The enemies were placed in weird ways. The first combat in the map has players going down a ladder and pressing a button to open a door. On the other side of the door are soldiers shooting at zombies who are facing the wall, off to either right and left side of the players. The zombies react slowly to being shot and don't really pose a threat to players, and the soldiers are more interested in the zombies than players. Then there is a section in a hallway where a baby garg and some other monsters were around the corner. Later, there is a gargantua that could not enter the room due to being too big, it was trapped by a low ceiling.

This is a map that screams amateur. It's not a terrible map, it avoids being unplayable. There are two places where the player has to destroy a crate and then a random section of wall, the crate doesn't look destructible and the wall has some poorly proportioned arrows pointing at it. I did manage to destroy both things and progress. There are two maps here in this set, but it could have all been fit into one map, both maps were very short and the second map felt like a single hallway with one room in the middle. This did not need to be two maps.

Overall, good for a first map. But not good enough to recommend anybody play it.

Pros:

  • At no point did I feel frustration or like I didn't want to play this map
  • delivers ammo and HEV up front in the spawn room

Cons:

  • the map looks bad
  • enemy placement wasn't great
  • the map did not need to have two parts, part two was over so fast I almost missed it
Score: 4 / 10
