A decent experience
A bit brief but has some interesting map design that makes it aesthetically pleasing in some ways which is great especially when you consider the age of this mod.
The port itself though could use a little bit more work in certain areas:
- The first level you spawn with medkit, would be better if the medkit was picked up later on, for instance in the room with the large window- the medkit has to be disabled in the cfg
- Some of the viewmodels still use the default orange hevsuit arms, for instance the medkit and grenade and tripmine, and the worldmodels for the hev suit is also orange. For consistency I'd have it all the one color- if blue arms are to be used the models can be obtain from the Azure Sheep map pack.
- The snapbugs still use the default displayname "Head Crab"
- The crowbar in the first level that is on top of the pushable trolley remains floating when the trolley is removed
- The same room should also have a handgun to prepare players for fighting the hrgunts that spawn in the lobby area, and considering the hgrunts are buffed this becomes aggravating when you have to tussle for the handgun that Bob drops when he dies
- When the hrgunts spawn Bob just vanishes rather than leaving a corpse to indicate he was actually killed. He is likely being killtargeted- two ways this could be dealt with: trigger_hurt_remote and making sure that "Don't Fade Corpse" is set for Bob, or spawning a monster_barney_dead and triggering a blood splatter infodecal in the vicinity.
- There needs to be advancing spawn points in certain areas of the map to save players from starting all the way from the beginning and going on an epic voyage just to get to the spot where they died- of course in co-op players are encouraged to revive using medkit but playing solo this isn't an option.
- The level where you spawn inside the vents requires a setup to prevent players from trolling and blocking players from going through. Either players need to spawn nonsolid (then resolidify after they exit the vents) or a timed spawn switch about a half minute delay should be done via trigger_auto, with the spawn being just outside the vent exit. A trigger needs to be placed at the vent exit to do this anyways. The former method requires a lot of work to get it working but its much more preferrable.
- The level with the moving platforms need to have crush damage set for them so that if players obstruct them they don't remain stuck and cause them to go out of sync.
May be missing a few other points, I may edit this post later to include them if I remember.
But overall this was a fun campaign to play and its good to see it being added to the SC map collection so more people can play it. Often these HL mods become obscure and forgotten and these ports are the best way to bring back life and keep them alive so long as people continue to play and enjoy them.
